Aan het woord: Yoeri Delfstra
Hallo! Ik ben Yoeri Delfstra en bezig aan mijn 4de jaar van de opleiding Finance, Tax and Advice. Als import-Fries ben ik in 2018 in Groningen neergestreken. De levendige stad, het mooie studentenleven en een kortere reistijd waren voor mij de redenen om te willen verhuizen. Naast mijn studie heb ik twee jaren bestuur gedaan en huurteam Robin Hood Renters Help opgericht.
De Hanzehogeschool Groningen maar ook de RUG verwelkomt ieder jaar meer studenten. Hoewel de stad vele pluspunten kent loopt het ook tegen haar beperkingen aan. De woningnood is groter dan ooit en hier lijkt voorlopig geen einde te komen. Naast de groei van het aantal studenten en het ombouwen van studentenhuizen naar studio’s wordt huisvesting een steeds kritischer agendapunt. Gehaaide verhuurders ruiken hun kans en trekken massaal naar de stad om woekerprijzen te vragen. Studenten zijn vaak laks, goedgelovig of niet goed op de hoogte van rechten. Dit maakt ze een makkelijk doelwit wat het schaarse woningaanbod steeds onbetaalbaarder maakt.
Vanuit mijn bedrijf probeer ik huurrecht toegankelijker te maken met gratis juridisch advies en no cure no pay-procederen. Ik ben van mening dat de Hanzehogeschool Groningen zich meer met studentenhuisvesting moet bezighouden. Lijst STERK steunt Shelter Our Students en maakt zich daarnaast hard voor belangrijke thema’s zoals internationalisering en een actieve studentengemeenschap. Door op STERK te stemmen weet ik dat mijn stem op de juiste plek terechtkomt.

Hello, I’m Yoeri Delfstra and working on my 4th year of the Finance, Tax and Advice course. As an import-Frisian, I settled down in Groningen in 2018. The lively city, the beautiful student life and a shorter travel time were the reasons for me to want to move. Besides my studies, I did two years of board work and founded rental team Robin Hood Renters Help.
The Hanze UAS but also the RUG welcomes more students every year. Although the city has many strengths, it also has its limitations. The housing shortage is greater than ever and there seems to be no end in sight. Besides the growth in the number of students and the conversion of student houses to studios, housing is becoming an increasingly critical agenda item. Hasty landlords smell their chance and flock to the city to charge exorbitant prices. Students are often lax, gullible or not well informed about rights. This makes them an easy target which makes the scarce supply of housing increasingly unaffordable.
From my company I try to make tenancy law more accessible with free legal advice and no cure no pay litigation. I believe that the Hanze should be more involved in student housing. Lijst STERK supports Shelter Our Students and also works hard for important issues such as internationalisation and an active student community. By voting for STERK I know that my vote goes to the right place.
