Aan het woord: Max Hömer

Hello everyone,

My name is Max Hömer, I am 24 years old and from Germany. In September 2018 I started studying here in Groningen and unfortunately I still don’t know Dutch very well. I study International Business and am in my last year and currently doing the graduation minor “International Strategy and Business Development”.

Besides my studies I am the treasurer of the International Business School Union. The IBS-U is the student association with a lot of international students. Since September, I have had the chance to accompany and help shape many fun and exciting events such as the introduction week, the Halloween Party and the Charity Ball. Additionally a ski trip will take place at the end of February, where also people outside of IBS-U can take part in. Corona has made it especially difficult for us to organize events, however, we tried to make the best possible.

My third year at Hanze was supposed to be a year abroad including a semester abroad in Seoul, but due to Corona I spent the year in Germany. For an internship in e-commerce I was in Oldenburg at CEWE and then I spent half a year in Berlin working as a working student at a startup.

From February onwards, I will do my graduation project together with a startup in Barcelona.

The students at IBS really come from all over the world and in the beginning I wondered why people chose Groningen as it is such a small city. But after a few weeks here, the reasons were clear to me. Both the city of Groningen and the student life here are just great and I just fell in love with it. Over the years I have met many new people and made some really good friends. So, I’ll leave Groningen in February and I’m really excited for my new challenge in Barcelona, but at the same time I’m sad to end this chapter of my life.

Tot ziens 🙂
